I was amazed at the appointment because when we got called back, the doctor actually followed behind us, so we didn't even have to wait for him. Nice. He was fast and efficient yet still personable. He said that she had the nicest break you can have. Usually they require another x-ray to confirm the break has healed properly, but with the type of break Shelby has (a buckle fracture, which looks like a wrinkly or bumpy area in the bone) the x-ray won't be necessary. She has to wear her cast for 4 weeks. Of course when they showed her the colors she could choose from, she picked pink. Now she has a nice BRIGHT pink cast.
She let us be the first to write our names. Of course Tom started first by writing his name all nicely, so I followed suit. Tom helped Taylor do hers and went and did Payden's for her.
In our house, the girls LOVE to "be a family." In other words, if we all sit on the same couch together . . . it's a family couch. When we all sit at the table together . . . it's a family table. The girls look for every opportunity for us to "be a family" and in their heads that is the perfect scenario. Of course, Shelby couldn't be the only family member not on her cast, so she had Tom put her name on it as well. I love it. I hope the desire to "be a family" is something they stick with forever.
We'll have to get one more picture once she returns from school tomorrow. When I picked Shelby up from school, her teacher was already mentioning to Shelby about having everyone sign her cast. Her teacher is a great teacher with an enthusiasm that matches her students. Now I hope we can make it the next 4 weeks without getting her cast wet.

My conversation with Josh...
Me: Hey Josh, look, Shelby got a bad owy (however you spell that!)
J: Wow, what happened?
Me: She broke her arm!
J: Why? Did she get into a fight and she lost?
Me: Um, no, Shelby wouldn't get in a fight like that.
J: Is it because she goes to a slippery school and she fell? They should make the school not slippery. (all said in a very concerned voice)
Me: No, her school is fine, she just lost her balance and fell.
J: Oh. Whey are there words on her cast?
Me: There names, people sign names on casts just for fun. It makes the person with the owy feel better.
J: Who wrote those names? Shelby?
Me: No, Tom and Rachel did.
J: Can Tom and Rachel sign my name too?
HERE'S HOPING TO A SPEEDING RECOVERY!! I would have picked pink too Shelby!
