Shelby, Taylor, and another friend Emily rode home together from school and Taylor, Payden, and I joined later. They had fun splashing in the sprinklers, eating popsicles, and playing.
Later, their friend Deanna joined up as well. The funny thing is they are all teachers' children and they are all the good ones in their classes.
What's this book? Well, a couple of times a month Shelby's teacher sends home a book on her reading level for her to read and then return to school the next day. This is the book Shelby got for the entire month of May. I was absolutely shocked when I pulled it out of her backpack. It took us awhile to read the 52 chapters, but she did it. Shelby finally had a book that challenged her a bit. The French and Italian words were difficult at first, but by the end she did a really good job. She really enjoyed the book, too, which could be difficult for a kindergartener reading at a 5th grade level. Shelby has always loved to read, but even we were a bit amazed to learn she was reading at a 5th grade level. We're soooooo glad she had an awesome teacher who worked with her at her level.
Shelby found out that she and her friend Taylor had the most AR points in all of kindergarten (AR is a program where you read books, take tests on the books, and then get points according to how you do on the tests). For doing so well, she got to go to an AR party for the top readers, to shave a teacher's head (the top winners of each grade level got to help), and she received a medal - her first one ever. We are so excited for how well she did. Yeah Shelby!
On the last day of school the Kindergarten got to participate in Kindergarten Splash Day. It was soooo much fun. I was able to help out (it about killed me to be on my feet all day long), but it was so fun watching Shelby with her class and her teacher having fun. They got to:
Wash a car.
Get sprayed by her teacher (she has a really, really fun teacher).
Splash around in wading pools.
As well as splash her mom when she was standing nearby taking pictures and watching.
Play with shaving cream.
Here she is right before she got sprayed down by her teacher. She had a lot of fun, but was definitely a bit timid about getting dirty at first. It took her a bit to warm up to it.
Blow bubbles.
Play in the sand.
Here she is with her teacher Ms. Parker. She is an awesome, awesome teacher, and we will miss her. Shelby had a great year, and it's so hard to believe that our baby is growing up so fast. Way to go Shelby!!!

Looks like a fun summer. All those water games at the school look like so much fun!!
That book Shelby is reading is actually coming to theatres (a cartoon) this December. It looks really cute!
Hope the rest of your summer is just as fun. And good luck surviving the last bit of your pregnancy in that dreaded SA heat Rachel!!!!
They really go all out with the kindergartners. I bet she had a great time.
And what a smarty pants Shelby is! Kennedy does really well with Dick and Jane, but nothing like that book.
Hope your pregnancy is going well.
