Sleep After Surgery

For two weeks after surgery, we were waking Taylor up at 2 in the morning for her pain killer. When she finally got off the pain meds, we were looking forward to her settling into a nice sleep pattern. She would nap during the day, and then we'd put her down at night. After an hour of sleep, she would wake up screaming and crying and making ugly, angry noises. We'd go to her and nothing we'd do would calm her down. She'd then wake up 2 more times doing the same thing. Now before her surgery, this is what she'd do at night when she didn't take a nap but needed it. We were so frustrated because she was getting a good nap and then still having problems at night. At three weeks after her surgery, she had only slept through the night once. When we went in for her three week check-up, the ENT said that the sleep would be the last thing to fall into place and that we could have 2 to 3 weeks more of these sleep issues. I about died when I heard that.

Well lately, she's changed a bit. For the past few days, she's not been napping, but then she's not falling asleep when she's supposed to either. Fortunately though, she seems to be getting a little better. She'll wake up a few times, but not crying. Sometimes she does wake up crying, but it's only once.

Last night, she woke up (she goes to sleep in our room because of all the screaming she does), and I could hear her walking in our room, but she seemed to be doing something more than just coming downstairs. We finally heard her open the door and come downstairs. When she came into the family room, we noticed she was dragging our bed sheet along with her. We called for her to come here, but she just kept walking straight into the kitchen. By this point Tom and I are looking at each other and laughing a bit because we could tell she had NO clue what was going on. Right after she entered the kitchen, she finally responded to us calling her name and telling her to come here. She stopped, dropped the blanket, and then came over to Tom and gave him hugs. Tom and I were just laughing because we knew if we hadn't said anything she would have ended up at the garage door at the end of the kitchen. She was completely out of it. When Tom put her back to bed, he found out why she'd taken awhile to get out of our room. She'd also been trying to drag our comforter for our king bed along with the sheet. After some difficulty, she'd given up and just brought down the sheet. How funny!

Well tonight, I heard her screaming in our room. I waited for her to scream it out and then come downstairs. I was curious to see what she was going to do this night. When she walked into the family room, she immediately took off her pants and underwear. I started smiling and chuckling a little and just watched her because I was REALLY curious now to see what she was going to do. She walks past me into the kitchen - again with a totally confused look on her face; I then heard her open the fridge door. I'm really wondering what she's doing now, so I call her name. She comes back towards the family room and stops in the dining room, fortunately on the tile floor. All of sudden she starts peeing all over the floor. She empties her bladder and then starts crying. I look at her and just start laughing. Poor girl. She obviously had no idea what was going on or what she was doing. It was so funny. I'm even crying now because I'm laughing so much as I type this.

Now I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.
