We are at the end of the soccer season for Madison and Ryan, our niece and nephew, and their season's couldn't have been any more different. Poor Madison's team tried and tried, but could not win a game, but ended the season by losing in the first round of the final tournament . . . but they did play their little hearts out and ended on high. Ryan's team, on the other hand, never lost. They did tie . . . once . . . but they played well every game and generally won EASILY. My guess is that that is why the opposing team in the first game of the tournament decided it wasn't worth coming to the game. We were excited for game, but waited and waited and waited for the other team to show up. Finally, a forfeit was called, and just like that Ryan's team advanced to the finals. With a bunch of boys ready to play soccer, an empty soccer field, and plenty of family members to join in, the coach decided to have fun and have the boys and whomever else wanted to play a fun game. At first Tom wasn't going to play because he was wearing flipflops, but Ryan and the boys begged, so he trotted onto the field . . . barefooted.
Boys, dads, brothers, and sisters alike had TONS of fun.

After 2 20 minute periods, they ended the game. Tom really had a blast . . . and a good workout. We were also able to enjoy a rainbow during the game as well.

Unfortunately, during the game Tom's toe got stepped on . . . by a cleat (remember he wasn't wearing any shoes) . . . so here's what it looked like a few days later.

Despite the pain from the game, the players had a blast, and we all enjoyed watching them! Now we can't wait to see the finals.
