Taylor is in the Parent and Tot class, so I get the joy of going in the water with her. I enjoy doing this with her, but hate the fact that I have to wear a swimsuit. Oh well. Anyways, she's already pretty comfortable in the water, so at least I don't have to deal with too many fears. She does hate to get her nose and eyes in the water, so that has been our biggest obstacle.
I asked her if she would let me dip her under the water, and she said yes. She did a good job and even came up smiling. It's funny because she tells me she's ready to go under, but then I litterally have to force her head under the water. I'm just proud that she's going under. I figured it would take longer. Anyways, they have them do TONS of things in the 30 minutes we're there. They sing lots of songs. They've worked on getting in and out of the pool alone, blowing bubbles under the water, putting their faces under the water, kicking, placing hands in correct dive position, laying flat on the water, being dipped in and out of the water, and that's all I can remember. It'll be fun to see how well she does these next 3 lessons now that she's comfortable with putting her head under.
As for Shelby, she's done really well in the small group lessons. She's really come along way this summer with not fearing the water, so the lessons have come at a great time. She's worked on floating on the water all by herself, holding her breath under the water and then coming back up and breathing, floating on her tummy, kicking with her toes pointed, and I'm sure more things, but Shelby just can't remember them all.
We're proud of her because we tried earlier this summer to get her to float on her back, and she flipped out. She's doing a really good job and is really enjoying the lessons.
This time Tom and Payden came along, which was fun to have them with us. Tom really enjoyed watching the water polo match on the other side of the pool (yeah it's a HUGE pool). Payden just sat next to him. She did try to venture on her own, but ended up falling on the bleachers.

How cute! I love the swim caps! I just tried wearing mine for the first time this week and have no clue how to even get it on, so just that you can get it on two girls I'm impressed, even if they can't see out of it!
This is such an awesome idea-I think swimming lessons are essential! Your girls look so adorable!
Thanks y'all. As for me getting the swim caps on . . . well Tom stretches them over their head while I hold their hair in place. I remember trying to put one on when I was little and it HURT. Making it a 2 man job has worked nicely. No complaints from the girls so far.
You have two little fish on your hands. They're so cute. They'll be freestylin' it in no time!
And well done Payden on the talking! Too cute.
It's crazy to read this and think in a few years my kids will be doing this...and then I can remember when I did this when I was little so it comes full circle! It just gets me excited and hopeful that my kids will like it! And nice to have TOm there to take pics!
Where do you guys do the swimming lessons? I would like to start Nathan out in something lika mom and tot class. Since the episode at the swimming playgroup I am anxious to get him (and me) back in the water and not scared of it. Your girls are way too cute!
I figured I should leave a tip on the swim caps since I spent a lot of time wearing one. It is almost always a two man job. The best way to do it is to hold it to your forehead and have the other person stretch it over the back of your head. Also my swimming lesson tip is to get Payden floating in the bath tub. I've started practicing with Jack already. Babies are quite buoyant so as long as they know to keep their head still they should be able to float on their back.
