BBQ at Canyon Glen

With our family in town, we were trying to think of things to do and decided a BBQ in the canyon would be nice . . . and it was. We went up Provo Canyon to eat at Canyon Glen.

When we got there, Payden started playing with a soccer ball. She had a blast and did a really good job kicking the ball while running.

Declan decided to enjoy a little too much of nature.

While I watched the kids play, everyone else set to grilling and preparing the food. Eventually my niece and her family arrived. She has a daughter just about Payden, who Payden absolutely loves. As soon as they saw each other, they gave each other a HUGE hug; it was cute!

The girls really haven't played soccer much, but they had a fun time kicking the ball around.

My niece's daughter Cadence, who is full of energy, immediately joined right in with kicking the ball.

Declan of course continued to do what he does best . . . explore, discover, and shove things in his mouth.

I wanted to get a picture of the kids. This is the smile Shelby gave.

Of course no one else was willing to sit down for me to take their picture. Payden and Cadence, who are both 3, started fighting of the soccer ball. Imagine that . . . 3 year olds not being able to share . . . what a shock!!! I had to intervene and show them how they could both play, but together. It took a second to get them to listen to me, but finally instead of both trying to kick the ball at the same time, I got them to kick the ball back and forth to each other, and they had a blast.

A little after we got there, Tom put the watermelon in the stream to cool down. The kids were very intrigued by this and concerned that it might float away. Of course Tom had a little fun with everyone and told us that it had gotten loose and was floating down river. After a minute of scrambling around trying to find it going down the river, he finally let on that he was pulling our legs. Of course this made the girls even more afraid that it would come loose, and so they often went back to check on it and to make sure it hadn't moved.

I finally saw Taylor and asked her if I could take her picture . . . this was her response.

Tom finished helping and took some time to work with the girls on their soccer skills. Shelby really tried to listen and kick like he told her to. It was cute. They both enjoyed having him kick the ball with him.

Since Shelby and Taylor had the soccer ball, Payden and Cadence took to roaming around as well as trying to play frisbee . . . yeah the frisbee playing didn't work so well.

Here's Shelby working hard to kick the ball like Tom told her. Too cute!

Now Declan is almost one, and we TRY to get him to walk, but he cries and screams like we're torturing him. For some reason, he actually let Courtney, my niece, walk him around. (Later that week I learned that it was because he HATES the feel of grass and would rather walk on it then crawl on it). At the time, I was just excited to see him walking around.

The pavilion where the food was was surrounded by a metal bar that sat about 1 1/2 above the ground. The easiest way for Payden to get from the pavilion to the grass was to hunch down and go under it. Unfortunately, I think she scraped her back. She suddenly erupted in tears and screams. Fortunately, Cynthia was there to give her lots of hugs.

While we were cooking, we realized we'd forgotten sticks to roast marshmallows, so they asked the kids to try to find some. Taylor, who is great at finding things, was the first to find a good roasting stick.

I loved watching Shelby try to kick. Unfortunately, I think she must take after me . . . not very coordinated, but she was trying hard and looked so cute as she tried.

So here is everyone . . . Jeremy and Cassidy grilling with Ryan and Ronan helping out.

Our nephews Dylon and Travis with Travis's girlfriend Megan.

Our nephew Tyson with Dylon . . . can you see who likes being in the pictures. By Tyson we have Payden and my niece's daughter Cadence.

Madison holding on to Declan.

Ryan.

Tommy Boy grilling some corn.

Allie burning the tips of the sticks with Taylor looking on.

Max helping out Allie.

Angie and Cynthia getting the condiments and whatnot ready.

This is the river we ate by . . . it was sooooo gorgeous!! I love being able to be out in nature so easily.

And here we are . . .

Now the Ormes LOVE LOVE LOVE their babies. Here's Declan getting loves from Aunt Angie and being fed by Aunt Cynthia. Does it get any better than that?

Unfortunately he wasn't so kind to Aunt Barbara. Here he is giving her a face. He wasn't too sure about her.

Finally after preparing and some playing by the kids . . . it was time to eat!

After she'd finished eating Payden came up to me looking like this. She had soot everywhere!!

Since Taylor had to go to the bathroom, Payden came along to get cleaned up. Boy was she dirty!!

On the way back to the pavilion, I finally got an okay shot of Taylor.

The girls were walking ahead, and I asked Taylor to hold onto Payden. Payden feels more comfortable and safe holding someone's hand, and with them crossing the river I felt more safe, too. They were so cute walking together like that.

We paused to take a look at the river . . . so beautiful!

Cute girls!

When we returned, Declan had finally warmed up to Barbara. Of course food is definitely a good way straight to this boy's heart.

With night beginning to fall, the kids, Tom, and I headed home before everyone else to get to bed. We had a perfect night filled with good food, wonderful family, and beautiful surroundings.

Looks like quite the fun event. Declan is continuing to maintain the Tom "Mini-Me" look. And I love seeing anything with Payden since it reflects so closely to what Avery's doing and learning- playing "kickety-kick ball" in the backyard is her latest thing. And I LOVE the pics of Payden and Taylor on the bridge- those definitely belong in the all-time keeper file!
