To Grandmother's House We Go: Thanksgiving Day

We were so shocked and happy to learn that Tom actually had Wednesday off this year. While Tom and the girls decorated the Christmas tree (I figured it'd be nice to have it up when we returned from Houston), I packed our bags. Finally a little after lunchtime we headed out. We made it there with a handful of hours to spare before bedtime - a necessity as getting to Nana and Papa's house is an extremely exciting event and takes many hours for the girls to settle down.

The next day we awoke to get going on Thanksgiving. Payden, who absolutely loves her Papa (can't you tell?), loved to go and help. Here she is showing Papa her backpack of animals.

Some of the things we did were . . .

Watch the Macy's Thanksgiving parade and read books.

Prepare dishes - green jello w/nuts and pineapples and cool whip (yum), sweet potato casserole (yum), cranberry sauce, dressing, mashed potatoes, rolls, peas, and, of course, the turkey.

Played with toys.

Played with cousins. The last time we visited Payden and Avery finally started playing together at the end of the visit. This time it took about 15 minutes and they were playing together. We were so proud of them, and they did a really good job; not too much fighting over the same toy or saying, "Mine."

Played the computer. Taylor kept jumping and attacking Tom and was being a little too rough, so Tom pulled out the computer to keep her distracted.

Chit-chatted and watched football.

Snuggled with aunts and uncles.

Finally, dinner was ready. The kiddos got to sit at their own little table. Payden kept getting and tickling Avery and finally ended up on my lap to give Avery a break and to give her a chance to eat.

After the kiddos got their food, it was our turn to dig in.

After dinner and once both babies were awake, we decided to snap a picture of the two kiddos who were born this year - Declan and Addy. They are a little less than 3 months apart. Addy's about 6 lbs. in this picture (she had the cord wrapped around her neck and was really, really small). Declan is about 17 lbs. in this picture. It was so funny to see them next to each other because he is so huge for his age and she is so little for hers.

Of course, we finished off the day with yummy, delicious pie. Scott made us some pumpkin pies and an apple pie. They were sooooo good.

Then we finished the night with more playing, reading, chit-chatting, football watching, and relaxing.

It was a wonderful, delicious meal. We had a great time being with family and are grateful to be able to have them close. Happy Thanksgiving!

Looks like a fun Thanksgiving. That picture of "chatting and watching football" it looks like you got your hair cut, and IF you ever DO decide to cut your hair...that length in that picture is SUPER cute on you!! You look all young and hip:)

And really...jello with nuts and pineapple? Ummmm, I don't know how I feel about that. I might have to just take your word:)
