Last Week of Swimming Lessons

I'm glad we're done for now, but at the same time it was fun taking them to lessons and watching them learn how to swim. They do have a session again starting in November, but with as cold as their pool is and with the cold weather (and my children's tendencies to get sick), I think we'll wait 'til next spring to start back up again.

The program taught is called SwimAmerica. There are 10 levels that the kids have to progress through, but the kids are allowed to advance at their own pace, which is really nice. The Levels are 1-Splashers, 2-Bubblers, 3-Floaters, 4-Kickers, 5-Crawlers, 6-Frogs, 7-Dolphins, 8-Starfish, 9-Divers, and 10-Swimmers.

Shelby did really well and passed off Levels 1-3. She's improved so much as she's now extremely comfortable putting her face in the water, which she hated before. She also can float on her own, which is exciting.

Taylor was able to pass off Level 1.

Although the coach and I both tried really hard to get her to put her face under the water and blow bubbles, she just wouldn't do it, and so she didn't pass off Level 2. We finally got her to put her face under by herself, but she would not blow bubbles or open her eyes. I figured it was okay because she's still only 3; most of the other kids in her class are older than her (although they don't look it . . . she's just so tall and verbal that it's easy to assume she's older).

Payden came along as well with Tom, looking her craziest in her pjs with some nice bed-head going on. We're so glad we did this, and the girls have done so well. I'm excited to see how far they'll get next session.

When we went home, Shelby and Taylor were bathing and I asked Shelby to put her face in the water and blow bubbles for Taylor. She did and blew a huge amount of bubbles; it was awesome. I think that must have inspired Taylor because she decided to do it too and will now put her own face under the water and blow bubbles. AHHHH!!! Of course, it had to be after lessons, but hey I guess better late than never. Now I just gotta make sure we practice it all winter long, so she's ready for lessons next spring.
