I've always heard stories of kids who hold their breath really long, but I've never really had one. Well on Tuesday the 16th, Payden fell and hurt herself. I looked over, and she didn't seem badly hurt. I just told her to come here, which she did crying the whole way. I picked her up and she revved up for a big huge cry. Soon her face started turning a little purple, so I yelled, "Breathe." Finally out erupted this huge cry, which immediately deflated into nothing. The next thing I know she had slumped forward onto my chest and was totally quiet. I bent to look at her, and she started fussing a bit, but I could tell her eyes were closed and that she was kinda out of it. Eventually she came back to life, but I couldn't believe what had just happened. I have NEVER seen a kid hold their breath so long that they knock themselves out, but that's exactly what happened.
The next day we were at the doctor's office getting flu shots. Payden had just gotten hers and started revving up for a big cry. Of course it was a repeat of the day before although this time she didn't slump forward; she slumped backward, which almost knocked her out of my arms. Tom was there and couldn't believe it - the second time in 2 days.
Well, on Saturday it happened AGAIN!!! This time she was knocked out for a bit before she came around again. I'm just in shock that she does this to herself and unsure on how to get her to stop. I'm hoping to catch it on video the next time because it is just crazy to watch. What a crazy girl!!!!

That's what the dr. claimed was josh's "second seizure". He was VERY upset, got hurt, and just fell over backwards like a board! I think it's scary. I don't ever want to see one of my kids do it again!!
There's such a difference between knocking yourself out and having a seizure. With Payden, she went limp, her face turned purple . . . it was obvious she was holding her breath. Josh's would have been obvious to you, too. That doctor sounds wrong.
Robert does that too. Never to the extent of passing out but that is because I used to do it to and my mom said she would blow in my face. By blowing in their face it shocks them into breathing so I immediately blow in Roberts face when he starts holding his breath.
I did that when I was a kid too. If I was upset I'd just hold by breathe until I passed out. My mum would be in an other room and hear a big crash from me falling to the floor. Scary. I hope Jack doesn't pick up this trick.
